OILDALE — A home invasion suspect was arrested after breaking into a home in Oildale on Friday and assaulting a female homeowner.
Marcus Gray, 21, was booked into the Kern County Sheriff’s Central Receiving Facility for robbery, burglary, battery, and intimidating a victim. His bail has been set at $205,000.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were sent to a home in the 100 block of McKelvey Avenue in Oildale on Dec. 6, at about 3 p.m. to investigate a possible burglary in progress.
When they arrived, the homeowner told deputies that she was inside her home when she heard glass breaking. When she went to check it out, she saw that the glass to her front door has been broken and Gray running away.
However, Gray later returned to the home, where he assaulted the homeowner after she refused to deactivate the home’s burglary alarm system before fleeing the scene.
Deputies located Gray about one block away from where the incident took place at the corner of Merle Haggard Drive and North Chester Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident.
The indentified homeowner sustained minor injuries.
