Arrest Stemming from Shooting on Oakmont Street in Sacramento
Sacramento Police Department responded to a shooting incident report on Monday, February 3 at approximately 9:25 am at the 2300 block of Oakmont Street in Sacramento. Officers located the shooting victim, a 21-year-old male, who was quickly transported to the hospital. The suspect, Webster Lee, 42, fled the scene and was ultimately stopped later that night on Interstate 80 near Kidwell Road by the California Highway Patrol.
When officers responded to the initial call on Oakmont Street, they found that Lee, his wife, and another woman were involved in an argument inside their apartment. At one point, a shot had been fired. Lee, armed with the firearm, left the premises and went to a nearby apartment, and stole the neighbor’s car keys. As Lee, his wife, their teenage daughter and the adult female friend were getting into the stolen car, the neighbor’s ex-boyfriend confronted Lee. Lee fired several shots at the man, striking him multiple times in the upper body. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries from the shooting and was transported to an area hospital. Lee and the three women left in the stolen vehicle.
Officers searched for Lee and the stolen vehicle to no avail. The vehicle was put into the stolen vehicle system, flagged as armed and dangerous, and the information was distributed to outside agencies.
At approximately 12:00 noon, the Sacramento Police Department Communications Center was notified by the Concord Police Department that two women had been dropped off in Concord, one with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The women were identified as Lee’s wife and the 35-year-old female friend.
At approximately 12:30 pm, the stolen vehicle was located in a Concord park along with Lee’s unharmed daughter. Information about the Sacramento shooting, and a description and picture of Lee was then disseminated to Concord patrol officers.
At approximately 7:00 pm, an unattended running vehicle was stolen from a parking lot in Concord. The officer viewed surveillance video and believed the suspect to be Webster Lee. That information was sent to outside law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol. Later that evening, the vehicle was spotted and stopped on I-80 and Kidwell Road by the California Highway Patrol. An officer involved shooting occurred and Lee was taken into custody.
Lee is currently in police custody in a Vacaville hospital and will be booked into the Sacramento County jail on multiple charges including attempted homicide, carjacking, home invasion and assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation is still in progress and additional charges may be sought.
