Traffic Stop in Dixon Nets Suspect In $40,000 Winters Burglary
A routine traffic stop at Porter Road and Marvin Way in downtown Dixon led to the February 20 arrest of a Rancho Cordova man on suspicion of several felonies.
A Dixon police officer initiated the stop for expired registration tags on the suspect’s vehicle’s rear license plate. According to Dixon Police Sergeant Brad Harms, this is a common offense committed by criminals seeking to avoid paying the DMV fee. But a police officer can ascertain within seconds via his or her onboard computer if the tag’s number matches registration on file at the DMV. Compared to paying the small DMV fee, getting arrested for a misdemeanor is not worth it, Harms said.
While conversing with the driver, Ryan Chase Micklon, 23, the Dixon PD officer noticed items in Mickon’s vehicle appeared to match the stolen property described in a Winters Police burglary investigation alert recently disseminated to local police departments. Included in the report and Micklon’s car were expensive power tools, according to Sgt. Harms. While the investigation continues, Winters PD estimates the total value of all the stolen property in the case will exceed $40,000.
Dixon PD informed the Winters PD investigators of the vehicle stop. Winters PD notified the victim, who traveled to Dixon, looked in Micklon’s vehicle and confirmed the power tools and other property were his. Investigators are looking to connect Mickon with several other thefts recently reported in Winters.
Meanwhile, Dixon PD transported Micklon to the Solano County Jail, where he was incarcerated on felony charges including possession of methamphetamine and stolen goods in addition to the fraudulent license tag misdemeanor. Micklon’s previous and recent run-ins with the law include an arrest in September of 2013 for his involvement in an identity theft operation in Roseville, and in December in San Mateo on similar charges.
