The California Highway Patrol has reported that Crystal Lynn Bowersox, the former American Idol star, has been arrested on Driving Under the Influence charges last Friday in the West Valley region of Los Angeles County.
It appears that Miss Bowersox was on a small break from touring to support her most recent album, 2013’s “All That For This”, having performed shows in Santa Barbara on January 24 and Corona (Riverside County) on the 25th. Her next scheduled concert is in Worcester Massachusetts on March 20, according to her website.
28-year-old Crystal Bowersox gained fame on American Idol during the 2010 season. She became known for channeling such stars as Janis Joplin and Melissa Etheridge with her raw, bluesy and country sound. She joined such notable American Idol performers as Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert by being runner up to the competition winner, but going on to enjoy much greater success than the champion. (She came second to Lee DeWyze in 2010, Simon Cowell’s final season on the show.)
Since Idol, Bowersox has toured extensively across the United States supporting two albums. She has been chosen to star in the Broadway production of “Always…Patsy Cline”, playing the title role, which is due to open this fall in New York.
No details were provided on her arrest last Friday. However, she Tweeted at 3 pm that day that she was enjoying the Aroma Cafe, a Studio City home converted to a backyard cafe on Tujunga Avenue. By Tuesday she had tweeted that she was on the way to a band rehearsal at an undisclosed location, but her photo showed a barn in a snow covered landscape, perhaps near her home in Oregon.
