MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – A 5th grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School has been arrested for his alleged sexual relationship with a former student.
Jeffrey Yoshitake, 42, was the victim’s math teacher. He is accused of having a seven year relationship with her that began when she was 15 after she had moved on to high school. They reportedly ended the relationship in 2012, and she reported it to police last week.
Yoshitake will be charged with felony lewd acts with a minor. He was arrested last Friday and held on $100,000 bail. He reportedly taught at Garfield Elementary in Alhambra for 15 years. Though it is thought that this was an isolated incident, investigators are aware that there may be other victims, and have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward.
Earlier this year, another Alhambra Unified School District employee was also accused of child molestation. Alhambra High assistant principal Andrea Michelle Cardosa was charged with molesting two young girls while she was a basketball coach at a Riverside School. She resigned her position after serving only 3 months when the allegations were made. She reportedly admitted to the actions, and will be arraigned Friday.
