FRESNO – Two women were arrested for allegedly kidnapping an elderly woman and then attempting to rob a bank.
The 73-year-old woman told police she was confronted in her garage in the area of Butler and Chestnut avenues by two women who walked up to her, pointed a gun at her and demanded her keys.
The suspects put the woman in the back seat, tied her up, gagged her with duct tape, and put a mask over her head. They then drove around the city, making three stops, and eventually winding up at the Wells Fargo bank in the 700 block of North Cedar Avenue in northeast Fresno.
Bank employees told police that two women dressed in Middle Eastern clothing had tried to rob the bank with a note demanding money, but the women left without any money.
Bank employees provided a description of the women’s vehicle to the police, and an officer spotted the car near Maple and Fir avenues and pulled it over. The women, identified as 20-year-old Antinique Piggee and 19-year-old Jasmine Adams, exited the car at gunpoint.
Police then saw the tied up woman in the back seat. Police also found the demand note and a loaded 9mm handgun in the car.
Police said the women admitted to the kidnapping and the attempted robbery, and said they needed the money to pay off student loans and buy a new car.
The women are facing charges including kidnapping, kidnapping with the intent to commit robbery, attempted robbery, carjacking and home invasion.
