On Friday, April 18, an assault by means of force was reported to the San Jose Police Department’s 9-1-1 call center. 23-year-old Abdilatif Mohamud Farah, and 29-year-old Abdikadac Ahmed Abdullahi each face a charge of PC 211-212.5 (b)/(c), second degree robbery, and PC 245(a)(4), assault.
The suspects were intoxicated when they began to push their victim around after exiting the San Jose Bar and Grill next to the Tres Gringos bar, located near South 2nd /East San Fernando Street in downtown San Jose. It was after 1 am early Friday. They reportedly pushed the victim to the ground and began to kick and punch him in the head. The victim said he was carrying a portable DVD player when the two had taken him by surprise and began to beat him for it. The victim recalled that one suspect had lifted his boot and stomped on his head. He said he was hit and kicked repeatedly by the suspects until he was able to get away.
The victim suffered minor injuries, lacerations, and swelling to his left arm and right temple. When officers asked who hit him, he was able to point to two individuals standing on the street corner near the San Jose Bar and Grill. The victim said, “Those guys, the one with no shirt, and his friend in the white shirt.”
According to SJPD officers, Abdullahi denied knowing anything had happened. They said he told them “He was walking down the street looking for his cousin. He did not know why he was stopped and requested a lawyer”.
SJPD officers then asked Farah why he was suspected of beating up the victim, Farah told them, “he did not lay any hands on anyone”. He continued to say he “did not know what the police were talking about”. Farah told them “he was just walking down the street when he left the bar”.
After a quick search of the area, officers were able to locate a black and silver DVD player. The suspects were then booked into the Santa Clara Main Jail for the attack. The defendants’ next court appearance has been scheduled for May 15, 2014 at 9:00 AM in Dept. 35.
