CHINO HILLS – An 18-year-old man broke into a home early Wednesday, stabbed a resident who returned fire, striking the suspect, before police arrived.
Chino Hills Sheriff’s deputies said that Raiveon Wooden, 18, of Chino, broke into a residence on the 2800 block of Brookside Dr. at 2:24 a.m. Deputies arrived and were told that Wooden had forced entry into the home of the unidentified home and was hiding in the garage.
“The homeowner/victim became aware that someone was in his garage,” said a sheriff’s department spokesman. “As he was approaching the garage, he was attacked by the suspect and stabbed multiple times.” The victim, whose identity was withheld by authorities, was armed with a handgun. In efforts to protect himself and his family, said authorities, he fired at Wooden and struck him twice.
Both the victim and suspect were taken to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries, which are not expected to be life threatening, said reports. Deputies were told that the suspect was the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s daughter. No one else in the residence was injured, according to investigators, who did not disclose the number of other people in the home.
When the suspect is released, say authorities, he will be booked into West Valley Detention Center on charges of attempted murder and residential burglary. Wooden, say reports, does not have a criminal record. Investigators are still pursuing more information on the case.
Chino Hills is located in the far west section of San Bernardino County, the residence just a short distance from the city’s main street, Grand Ave.
