A young man from Fort Bragg must have been following the “Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers” law that he learned on the playground. Christofer Ryan McNeill, 18 of Fort Bragg, must have thought he got real lucky on Monday, October 6. He answered the door when a UPS delivery person came to his house with a package.
The Driver had a brand new XBox One video game system to deliver to someone in Fort Bragg, but went to the wrong house. McNeill lives on Pudding Creek Road in the more rural northern section of Fort Bragg, north of Pudding Creek. The houses here are more spread out than in the central part of town. When the driver brought the package and asked for the person it was addressed to, McNeill smoothly answered that he was the one.
Observing the name on the box, McNeill signed the receipt, accepted the package, and the driver left. Within the next two days, perhaps because the intended recipient did not get their anticipated XBox, it became apparent to UPS that they had gone to the wrong address. The driver contacted McNeill and told him of the error, and wanted to get the package back. McNeill, however, refused to cooperate, and kept the package.

The UPS driver then contacted the Mendocino Sheriff’s office to report the problem on Wednesday, October 8. When McNeill was identified as the culprit, the Sheriff’s deputies learned that he was on felony probation in the county, with an “obey all laws” clause. His unidentified offence occurred before he turned 18, but exactly one week after his 18th birthday, in December 2013, he was arrested on a probation violation.
According to the Sheriff’s office, deputies contacted McNeill at his home that day, and searching his house, located the purloined XBox. They did not specify, however, if he had opened it and used it yet. He was arrested and booked at the Mendocino County Jail on charges of forgery, receiving property as a result of false impersonation, and a violation of his probation. He was held on a no bail status.
