MOJAVE — A convicted felon was arrested on Wednesday after being linked to the shooting of a Mojave man on Monday morning. Rafael Perez, 31, was booked into the Mojave Jail for charges of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm and a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred shortly before 11:45 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24. That’s when deputies received a call of a shooting that just happened in the 8900 block of Lone Butte Road in Mojave.
Deputies said that when they arrived on scene they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds to his hand and hip. The victim told deputies that he and an unidentified man had became involved in a verbal confrontation at that location. During the altercation, the suspect then shot the victim two times before fleeing the scene.
The victim was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
On Nov. 25, detectives were able to ascertain that Perez was responsible for the shooting, and subsequently arrested him without incident on a warrant at approximately 11 a.m. on Nov. 26.
