BAKERSFIELD — One of two suspects who robbed a pair victims in a gas station parking lot on Tuesday night in Bakersfield has been arrested. The other is being sought by police.
Jose Mendoza, 33 of Morgan Hill, was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of kidnapping and second degree robbery. His bail is set at $150,000.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the incident began at around 9 p.m. on January 13, when Mendoza and a second suspect were seen by a Chevron store clerk robbing two separate victims in the parking lot located at 2301 Panama Lane in southeast Bakersfield.
One of the suspects was seen getting into a white Chevrolet El Camino that was parked to the side of the business.
Meanwhile officers arrived and attempted to arrest Mendoza, who ran away on foot, ditching a firearm and a set of car keys in a flowerbed along the way. Once he was in custody, officers said they located the stolen money from the first robbery on Mendoza’s person.
The suspect vehicle and a second gun was also located to the rear of the business. The second suspect has not yet been located.
