A suspected mail thief has reportedly been arrested, thanks in part to an alert citizen, according to an official weekly crime report issued by the Roseville Police Department.
Nathan Randolph Braden, 34, of Sacramento was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and other related charges.
According to Roseville PD, on Thursday, January 22 at about 3:30 am, a resident called 911 to report suspicious activity — someone taking things in and out of a rental truck in the Diamond Woods area. The resident reportedly thought the person was breaking into cars.
Upon arrival, officers found the rental truck had been stolen in Sacramento, and detained the driver after a short struggle. Inside the truck, officers reportedly found burglar’s tools and numerous pieces of stolen mail. They also found several cluster mailboxes that had been broken into in the Blue Oaks, East Roseville Parkway, and Olympus Pointe neighborhoods.
The US Postal Service Inspection authorities have reportedly been notified and will be investigating the theft of US mail as a Federal Offense.
This is not the first time Braden has run afoul of the law. Records show that on October 8 of last year he was arrested by Sacramento Police at his residence in Sacramento’s Tahoe Park on charges of possession of stolen property, and taking another person’s identification with the intent to defraud. In 2012 he was arrested for elder theft of an amount exceeding $400.00, along with conspiracy, possession of stolen property, and a narcotic controlled substance.
