FRESNO – A parolee who broke his wrist in an attempt to run from MAGEC gang officers over the weekend was arrested on weapons charges.
Adavier Thomas, 33, was on parole after recently being released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for assault with a deadly weapon. A Fresno Police Department detective and a Fresno County sheriff’s deputy spotted a car carrying Thomas parked illegally, according to the police department.
The officers tried to make contact with Thomas and the driver – Tempest Moss, 23 – when they saw Thomas try to hide something under his seat. The officers told Thomas to put his hands on the dashboard and were in the process of handcuffing him when Thomas told Moss to speed away, the police department said.
The car moved a few feet forward while officers tried to remove Thomas. During the struggle, Thomas’ wrist was broken, as was an electronic stun device officers deployed. Thomas was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The vehicle Thomas had been in was found in a nearby apartment complex. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered a loaded Glock .357 Sig caliber handgun. Moss, who told officers she sped off because she did not have a driver’s license and was scared, was arrested in her apartment. She was booked for weapons violations and for not having a license.
Thomas was also booked on weapons charges.
