Ventura County – In the middle of the afternoon of January 25th—“in broad daylight” as the cliché has it—David Sanchez, a 20-year old resident of the City of Ventura, simply could not control his obvious fascination with and appreciation for the physical appearance of a young woman jogging along the trails of Grant Park. So profound was his inability to resist a dangerous compulsion that when he spotted the young female trotting past, he allegedly reached out and “slapped her on the buttocks,” as described by the unnamed Ventura Police Department Watch Commander in his report to the media.
The object of Sanchez’s interest immediately called 911 Emergency to report the incident, whereupon VPD patrol officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, there was no sign of Sanchez, but their interview of the alleged victim provided colorful details of her contact with him. Upon realizing what had happened, the victim reported that she turned to confront Sanchez in a fighting stance, whereupon he grabbed both her wrists in an effort to restrain her until she made a sincere attempt to deliver a kick to his body in what one would assume to be the most vulnerable target area on a male body. Faced with such a combative female, Sanchez broke off contact and took off running through the park.
During the ensuing investigation, the victim reported a similar incident with Sanchez three months prior, during which he verbally assaulted her while following her for some distance until she turned and yelled at him, at which point he broke off contact and fled.
Given the totality of the circumstances, VPD detectives obtained a search warrant for Sanchez’s resident. Upon service of the warrant, Sanchez attempted to flee the premises but was promptly subdued, taken into custody, and transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on charges of sexual battery.
