NORTH COUNTY — San Diego Sheriff’s Department and Escondido Police Department have formally announced the arrest of Gilbert Andrew Chavarria, a suspect in multiple incidents of sexual assault. Chavarria was arrested on February 16th after DNA evidence linked him to four of the cases.
The incidents apparently began in June 2013 in the Escondido and San Marcos areas, where Chavarria would cut his way into homes via window screens in the early hours of the morning.
His victims are reported to have been between the ages of 5 and 15, and in some cases Chavarria is alleged to have been so brazen as to commit the assaults while the child’s parents were asleep in the same room.
Chavarria is housed in Vista Jail with bail set at $4.5 million, and is scheduled to appear in this very afternoon (2-19-15).
