Sonoma County Deputies Arrest Two in Connection With Petaluma Shooting
PETALUMA – The dispatch center at the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting from a resident near Petaluma at approximately 4 am on Friday, March 20. The shooting took place within county jurisdiction at a residence in the 5600 block of Old Redwood Highway.
Deputies found blood and other corroborating evidence at a home, which prompted the deputies to contact detectives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Investigations Unit as well as their Crime Scene Investigations Unit. The detectives responded and assumed the investigation.
Just before 4 am, the Petaluma Police Department had also received a call regarding a shooting, however that call came from the Petaluma Valley Hospital. An official reported that an adult male was being treated there for a gunshot wound. Petaluma Police Officers determined that the man at the hospital was likely the victim from the shooting at the residence within county jurisdiction. The victim is expected to survive his injury.
Later in the day, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office released more information pertaining to the suspects involved in the case. Woodruff Hilton, a 22-year-old man from Penngrove, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, a firearm, and conspiracy to commit a crime, obstructing an investigation and a violation of probation. He is being held without bail.
Daveon Saquan Hicks, a 20-year-old man from Fairfax in Marin County, was arrested for being an accessory to the assault with a firearm, conspiracy to commit a crime and obstructing an investigation, as well as a violation of probation. He is also being held without bail. Both suspects will be arraigned on the charges on March 24 at 1:30 in courtroom 9.
Records show that both men had several prior arrests. Woodruff Hilton, also known as Woodruff Hilton-Bramswig, was charged on May 5 of last year with possession and being under the influence of a controlled substance, and driving while in that state. Then on June 18 he and Daveon Hicks were both arrested by San Rafael Police for burglary, petty theft, and conspiracy. Hilton was also charged with resisting arrest. He was charged again with burglary and resisting arrest on July 1, but that may have been related to the earlier arrest. Further details of those incidents were not available.
In addition to that arrest, Daveon Hicks had been charged with domestic violence – inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant – in March of 2014 while residing in San Francisco. He was also charged with marijuana possession on December 13 while living in Fairfax.
Detectives continue to actively investigate the crime and the events leading up to and following the shooting.
