A Madera area field worker was arrested on Thursday, April 18 on charges ranging from drug possession to shoplifting and probation violations. According to the Madera County Department of Corrections, Alfredo Perez-Hernandez, 25, was charged with seven misdemeanor counts and one felony charge after his arrest by Madera Police.
Perez-Hernandez was arrested on two counts each of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, shoplifting, unlawful camping or squatting, all misdemeanors; and felony probation violation.
According to the department, Perez-Hernandez is a farm laborer working in the local almond fields. His arrest reflects a trend in increased farm laborer arrests in the San Joaquin Valley. The increase has been blamed largely on poor economic conditions , and the growing use of drugs in the community.
Perez-Hernandez’s arrest is a reflection of the trend. According to county records, he was arrested last year as well, also on drug charges. His bail for the latest arrest has been set at $141,000. He is listed as a transient with no current home address reported.
