SANTA ROSA – The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) issued a Community Bulletin on Friday, July 31, after a shooting in Bodega Bay. At approximately 9 am, SCSO deputies responded to 125 Taylor Street on the report of shots fired. Deputies found an unconscious woman on the street who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was brought to a safe location for medical treatment and was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital with what was described as serious injuries.
It began when three females from a nearby county were sleeping in the residence when an intruder awakened them. The man was armed with a gun and he held all three females captive. The intruder was an ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, and was also a restrained party on a domestic violence restraining order against seeing her.
While the females were being held captive, a fight started over the firearm, which allowed them to flee the residence on foot. As they were fleeing one of them was shot multiple times in the street fronting the house, while the other two were able to run to safety. A witness reported hearing multiple gunshots and also heard another shot from inside of the residence.
The SCSO Special Operations Unit also responded to the scene and set up a perimeter around the residence. After multiple attempts to make contact with the suspect were unsuccessful, members of the SWAT team were able to look into the residence and see that the suspect was sitting on a couch suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The SWAT team entered the residence and confirmed that the suspect was deceased. A firearm, likely a shotgun, was recovered in close proximity to the suspect’s body.
The names of the victim’s will not be released as the incident involved domestic violence and the victims have requested confidentiality. The suspect’s identity will not be released until notification is made to next of kin.
