Man In Black Tricks Clerk Out of Cash

The San Luis Obispo Police are looking for a man who stole cash from a hotel on Tuesday.

According to SLOPD, officers responded to a call at The Hampton Inn & Suites, located at 1530 Calle Joaquin for a report of a theft. Once officers responded to the scene, they discovered that a theft of cash had occurred from the front desk.

According to the clerk, a light-skinned black male suspect with a beard entered the hotel and walked upstairs. The suspect, according to the clerk, was wearing a black baseball cap, black clothing and a black jacket.

The clerk told police the suspect returned to the front desk a short time later and used a ruse to get the clerk to leave the area. According to Sgt. Brian Amaroso, “The ruse was simple; he told the clerk there was a spill that needed cleaning up on a different floor of the hotel.”

According to PRPD, a security camera in the lobby captured the suspect as he entered the hotel. It is unknown at the time of press if the suspect was involved in any other crimes in the nearby area.

Still police urge businesses to be on the lookout for the suspect. Police are asking anyone who has information as to the identity of this suspect is asked to call the San Luis Obispo Police Department, or Crime Stoppers.
