SAN FRANCISCO — A Mountain View man was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly using his car to pin a police officer against the officer’s patrol car and attempting to flee the scene, police said.
The man has been identified as 25-year-old Ulises Jaimes of Mountain View, which is roughly 40 miles south of San Francisco in Santa Clara County. The officer Jaimes is suspected of assaulting is recovering at home with non-life threatening injuries.
At around midnight on Monday morning, an officer responded to a possible auto burglary on the unit block Mirabel Avenue in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood. As the officer stepped out of his car to investigate the possible incident, the suspect, who was sitting inside a white BMW 750i, attempted to run over the officer, striking the officer and pinning him against his patrol car, police spokesperson Carlos Manfredi said.
The suspect attempted to escape, hitting a second patrol car as it arrived on the scene. However, the suspect could not get away and was taken into custody without further incident, Manfredi said.
Police detained five other suspects, who have since been released.
Following the incident the officer was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his ribs and legs, Manfredi said.
Jaimes was booked in the San Francisco County Jail on charges including attempted murder, recklessly evading a police officer, aggravated assault on a peace officer, and carrying out a hit-and-run collision causing injury and property damage, among other charges.
In the majority of his arrests in the past 8 years, Jaimes reported living in an apartment down the alley from this Mountain View house.
According to available records, Ulises Jaimes has at least 22 arrests over the past seven years, beginning in 2008 with a simple marijuana possession charge when he was 18. A year later he was charged with domestic violence – inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant. What followed were arrests three to four times a year, on charges ranging from burglary, theft and grand theft, to narcotics possession, driving under the influence or on a license suspended for DUI, reckless evasion, resisting arrest and giving false information to an officer. During these arrests he mostly reported living at two locations in Mountain View or East Palo Alto, but for three of the arrests he reported a Modesto residence.
He was arrested in August of 2014, while living in Mountain View, by Daly City police for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, committing a felony while out on bail, and driving that stolen vehicle on a suspended license. In April of this year, he was arrested by Modesto police and reported living in Modesto at that time, and was charged with reckless driving, DUI with a prior occurrence, child endangerment, resisting arrest, and making a false bomb report, along with probation violations. Prior to this latest incident, he was charged on July 4th with resisting or obstructing an officer and giving false information. He was back to his usual Mountain View address on North Rengstroff Avenue for that arrest.
