SAN FRANCISCO — Police said a man suspected of a rash of auto burglaries in San Francisco’s Marina District was arrested Tuesday, October 6 after they raided his home.
Edwin Tobie, 22, was taken into custody Tuesday morning after police searched his home on the unit block of Addison Street, and seized a Smith & Wesson handgun, burglary tools, foreign currency, and over $13,000 in cash.
A search of Tobie’s home in this San Francisco neighborhood turned up additional evidence.
Tobie, who police say affiliated with a San Francisco gang, has been booked in San Francisco County Jail for multiple counts of burglary, possession of stolen property, and weapons charges, including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm while on probation.
In recent years, Tobie has been arrested on numerous burglary related charges. In December 2013 in Alameda County, Tobie was charged with conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor burglary. In March 2014, in San Mateo County, Tobie was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of burglar’s tools, and burglary.
More recently, in January 2015, Tobie was picked up in Santa Clara County on a warrant. In June he was again picked up on warrant in San Francisco and later faced additional charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and receiving or concealing stolen property. He lived in San Jose at the time of those incidents.
“I commend the officers from Northern Station, the Special Investigations Division and Tactical Unit for their diligent work in taking both a convicted felon and a firearm off our streets,” Police Chief Greg Suhr said in press release. “San Francisco’s finest work every day to both prevent and solve crimes, and this case serves as a reminder to all of us not to leave valuables in parked vehicles.”
