Ventura County – With a friend like Jalon Berrios, you certainly don’t need enemies. That was made clear when, on October 12th, the 31-year-old resident of Thousand Oaks was arrested for what was described in a report to the media by Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Jeff Oswald as “stabbing a known acquaintance during an argument.”
It must have been quite a verbal exchange, and not one that Berrios felt good about, as it initiated a 911 Emergency call from his apartment complex neighbors who reported “an assault” taking place on the premises. Responding Thousand Oaks Police Department units arrived to discover a victim suffering from “injuries consistent with being stabbed.”
As the stabbing victim was being transported to Los Robles Hospital for treatment of his injuries, he informed investigators of his assailant’s identity, indicating that he and his attacker were personally familiar with one another. With a name and description of their principle suspect in hand, VCSD detectives began the search for Berrios.
With the coordinated efforts of personnel from the Thousand Oaks Police Department, Thousand Oaks Police Major Crimes Unit, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Special Services Major Crimes unit, and the VCSD Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Berrios was contacted later the same day and taken into custody without further incident. He was arrested and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of attempted murder with his bail set at $500,000.
