Burglary suspect climbed third story of building to try and enter residences with a loaded AR-15

SAN JOSE – Wire: 36-year-old Shannon Nathan Wong was arrested for possession of a firearm and residential burglary after a neighbor noticed the suspect trying to break into the front door of a neighbor’s residence carrying an assault rifle.
According to Officer Albert Morales, “On November 11, 2015 at approximately 12:52 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Bautista Place on a report of a subject trying to break into a residence.”

A call was sent out via social media to the residents of the Monte Vista Townhome community to stay inside, and that someone was climbing around windows at 12:30 am in the early morning on the third level of the building with an assault rifle, and knocking on windows. Residents were told to avoid contact with the suspect, identified as Shannon Wong through an attached photo.
San Jose Police officers responded to a residence in the complex known to be the home of the suspect. Once there, SJPD officers contacted the him at his front door. During a brief confrontation, they soon learned that the suspect was dressed in full military type clothing, armed with an assault rifle and was found to be act strangely.
Morales said, “As officers were giving the suspect verbal commands, the suspect lifted the assault rifle in the direction of officers.” A 17-year veteran on the SJPD force fired a single shot at Wong, who was not hit. The suspect retreated into the residence, and officers continued to give verbal commands to lay down on the ground and surrender. The suspect, after several minutes, complied, and was taken into custody without further incident. No one was hurt at the scene.
The suspect, Shannon Nathan Wong, was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for the incident. It is not known why he was carrying the assault rifle and handgun at the time. Reports however have confirmed that Wong worked as a nurse at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto. No motive as to why he had tried to attack his adjoining neighbors’ residences is known at this time.
“No officers were injured,” Morales said. “The officer who fired his weapon, a 17 year veteran of the San Jose Police Department, was placed on paid administrative leave.”
SJPD Officers searched the residence and found an additional weapon on scene. They were able to recover from his person a loaded AR 15 assault rifle and a loaded Colt 1911 handgun.
