BAKERSFIELD — Two Bakersfield men were arrested on Tuesday after a search of one of the men’s home turned up a cache of illegal guns and drugs.
Jose Mata, 43, and 27-year -old Henry Garza, both of Bakersfield, were booked into the Kern County Jail after a Jan. 5, probation search was conducted at Mata’s home in the 300 block of Cooley Drive in Bakersfield.
According to the Kern County Sherriff’s Office, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit discovered a .25 caliber semi-auto handgun, a .22 caliber rifle, approximately three ounces of methamphetamine and surveillance equipment at the residence during their search.
Mata is facing charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm/ammunition, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of sale and maintaining a residence for the purpose of distributing controlled substances.
Meanwhile, Garza who deputies said was also in the residence at the time of the search , is being charged for possession of several altered vehicle keys and an outstanding felony warrant.
Garza pled nolo contendere in June of 2015 for possessing a stolen vehicle and burglary tools, as well as a DUI.
