HESPERIA – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies are still piecing together the details of a home invasion on Monday in which left one suspect dead and four others in custody.
On Wednesday, deputies arrested Derek Adam Safahi, 33, Tammy Wynette Allman, 43, and Ricky Cisneros, 53, as suspects in the incident. All are Victorville residents. On Tuesday, Steven Lee Adams Lawrence, of Apple Valley, was taken into custody.
The first suspect arrested, Stephen Schenck, 47, of Hesperia, died on Monday after the attack that took place in a home near the 8800 block of Eleventh Ave. in Hesperia.
Schenck reportedly led a forced entry into the home while seven people were sleeping, said officials. According to reports, Schenck and one of the victims were former business partners and former in-laws.
The victim reportedly defended himself from Schenck with a baseball bat – three other adults and three children were also in the home.
Schenck’s knife attacks caused severe lacerations to the back and hands of the man who was described as his former father-in-law. Deputies said the invaders fled the home after that.
Summoned to the scene, deputies eventually discovered Schenck hiding underneath a vehicle nearby. Ignoring a deputy’s command to come out and “to show his hands,” deputies used a stun technique with a Taser.
Another deputy, said reports, used fist strikes to get the suspect to comply and surrender his hands to deputies.
Schenck was taken to a nearby marked patrol car when he collapsed, said officials. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two knives were found underneath the vehicle where he was hiding, according to a release. Lawrence, who was arrested at his apartment in the 22200 block of Nisqualli Avenue in Apple Valley, was booked into the High Desert Detention Center in nearby Adelanto. As of Friday morning, he was being held without bail.
Lawrence, who has a February 4 court date, has other unrelated charges pending in addition to charges of assault with a deadly weapon (not a handgun) from this case. There are no other suspects apparently being sought in the invasion.
Both Cisneros and Allman, who are being held on $250,000 bail, are scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on Monday. No disclosures have been made about the condition of the victims in the Eleventh Avenue residence where the attack took place.
