CARLSBAD — Police arrested a man who allegedly forced his way into a Carlsbad home and threatened the residents with a butcher knife.
Police arrested Alejandro Gutierrez, 30, of National City on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon and burglary. The February 7 incident began on the 1700 block of Nerine Way when police received a call from a man who said a stranger had approached him to complain that he was being followed.
When police arrived, they found the same man had forced his way into a home on the 6400 block of Lilium Way and that the homeowners had barricaded themselves in the master bedroom. The residents said Gutierrez entered their home, grabbed a butcher knife from their kitchen, and threatened them with the knife.
After escorting the family from the house, police found Guiterrez in one of the bedrooms and arrested him. Police said he later tried to escape from a police vehicle and resisted police when they tried to stop him.
Gutierrez was booked in the Vista Detention Facility and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, attempted escape, resisting a peace officer, and brandishing a weapon.
