SALINAS — 32-year-old Jesse Devlin Quiming has been sentenced to 56 years to life in prison after being convicted of murder and attempted murder.
On the night of June 19, a number of homeless people were preparing a camp on the back patio of the Monterey City Library on Pacific Street when an argument broke out. Apparently, it started with someone being stingy with their alcohol.
A witness testified at trial that after Quiming had been denied alcohol by Scott Long (40), who didn’t feel like sharing, he brooded for a while before walking over and stabbing Long four times.
Tyler Misamore (23) tried to stop the attack, but Long was already dead. Quiming turned the knife on him as well, stabbing him four times before discarding the knife and his shirt and fleeing the area.
He was eventually captured by Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies near Carmel High School.
Quiming was quickly identified due to having left his backpack behind, which contained numerous items with personal information.
