Madera Police Officers may have gotten more than they bargained for when they responded to a call regarding a shirtless man with a large blade.
According to Cpl. Josh Chavez of the Madera Police Department, Officer Richard Gonzalez responded to the area of Sherwood St. and Austin St. when a resident called in about a “shirtless, Hispanic male,” wielding a large object on the morning of June 7.
Upon arriving at the scene, it was discovered that the suspect, Peter Hernandez, was reportedly swinging a machete, which, according to Chavez, the suspect immediately proceeded to throw over a fence.
Reports indicate that Hernandez was initially uncooperative, and was found to be highly intoxicated.
“This had the potential to have a much different outcome.” Chavez said. “We’d like to thank the caller for their concern and also for doing their part in helping the MPD maintain the safety in our community.”
