PRUNEDALE — A jury has found 41-year-old Robert Rogers guilty of felony domestic violence and resisting a peace officer. He faces a sentence of up to four years and eight months, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.
In February of 2015, Rogers and his wife were driving home on Highway 156 when Rogers became upset with his wife’s driving, going so far as to punch her in the face 4 or 5 times. He then grabbed the wheel and forced the car to the right shoulders. Still irate, he continued to assault her by grabbing and twisting her arm, the forced the car to a stop in the left turn lane. He struck her in the head and mouth, then fled as she called 9-1-1.
A Sheriff’s Deputy soon made contact with Rogers at Rogers’ uncle’s home in Prunedale. When the deputy attempted an arrest, Rogers threw himself back against the deputy and kicked him in the leg.
Rogers is now scheduled for sentencing on August 9th. The case was investigated by former Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Madarus and will be heard by Monterey County Superior Judge Larry E. Hayes.
