PALO ALTO – – The Palo Alto Police Department arrested a parolee overnight after he refused to pay a fare to his cab driver, then discharged a stun gun at him.
The taxi driver driving in the area of El Camino Real at Military Way picked up a rider. After taking him to his destination, the rider refused to pay the driver and discharged a stun gun.
The taxi cab driver was uninjured but locked himself in his cab for protection as the uncooperative customer continued to try and intimidate the victim, standing at the driver side window continuously deploying the taser. The suspect then left the scene after the taxi driver called 9-1-1.
Responding officers had located a possible suspect near the 3900 block of El Camino Real, and found that he had a stun gun in his possession.
During the initial investigation into the incident, Palo Alto Police officers were able to determine that the suspect, 27-year-old Amir Sakaev of San Jose, was on active parole for criminal threats and was also on active probation for vandalism and violation of a court order.
Police booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for armed robbery, felon in possession of a stun gun. He also was currently wanted on warrants for a probation violation.
