The Paso Robles Police arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in an identity-theft operation. The two were arrested on Wednesday.
According to PRPD, they began an investigation last month after being alerted to possible mail theft and drug use that was occurring at the La Quinta Inn, 2600 block of Buena Vista Drive.
Hotel staff told investigators they found what appeared to be discarded stolen mail and narcotics paraphernalia while cleaning a room after the guests had checked out. Officers located the evidence and began conducting a follow-up investigation.
The investigation revealed the suspect(s) had fraudulently rented the room using another person’s identity.
The victim of that identity theft was an adult male resident of Bakersfield.
Staff notified investigators on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. the suspect who had rented the room in August was back at the hotel and had rented another room.
Detectives and officers responded, but the suspect had already left area. After some surveillance, the suspect and a female companion were located.
Police contacted and interviewed both suspects. Eventually, both suspects were arrested at the scene for identity theft and drug charges.
Detectives then served a search warrant on the room the suspects had rented and located numerous items of stolen mail, tools used to access postal service mailboxes, along with indicia of ongoing identity theft, items that had been fraudulently purchased, narcotics paraphernalia and approximately one ounce of methamphetamine.
Detectives also searched the suspect’s vehicle and located additional items of stolen mail, more indicia of ongoing identity theft and a pistol that had been reported stolen in Bakersfield.
The investigation also revealed that the vehicle being used by the suspects had been fraudulently purchased by the male suspect from a local auto dealer using the identity of the male victim from Bakersfield.
The suspects were identified as Vincent Buddy Tessandori , 44, and 28-year-old Destiny Maye Anderson, 28, both of Bakersfield. The suspects were transported and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail.
Tessandori was charged with felony manufacture of counterfeit access card, felony possession of forged access card, felony identity theft, felony theft by forged access card and felony possession of controlled substances for sale.
Anderson was charged with felony manufacture of counterfeit access card, felony possession of forged access card, misdemeanor identity theft, felony fraudulent use of a credit card, felony possession of controlled substances for sale and misdemeanor of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
