Sacramento Officer, Arrested on Gun- and Drug-related Charges, Resigns from Force

SACRAMENTO — A Sacramento police officer who was arrested in November for the possession of illegal drugs and a semi-automatic weapon has resigned from the police force.
On November 4, 2016, Isaac Knutila, 45, was arrested at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West Hotel for possession of cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine. While he was in possession of his .40-caliber duty pistol, Knutila was later found to have an illegal .223-caliber Ruger Mini-14 semiautomatic rifle.
A 16-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Force, he was arrested following an internal affairs investigation that began in October after another law enforcement agency was tipped off that Knutila had been seen in an area noted for prostitution.
Knutila was quietly arrested in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel and was initially charged with four drug-related misdemeanor accounts—which were later dropped—and a single felony charge of having a loaded firearm while in the possession of drugs. A second felony charge of the illegal rifle was added, but no prostitution or solicitation charges were filed.
Michael Wise, who is Knutila’s defense lawyers, said it is likely that his client has an “addition issue.”
