SANTA BARBARA COUNTY — The city of Goleta, just north of the city of Santa Barbara and considered one of the county’s safest residential areas, has recently suffered a spate of residential and commercial burglaries, but few result in arrests pursuant to alert private citizen actions.
The April 3rd apprehension and arrest of 30-year-old Santa Barbara resident Micaiah Meadows appears to be an exception. According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, it was approaching midnight when a 911 Emergency call arrived at the SBSD Goleta Valley Patrol from a citizen reporting “a subject shining a flashlight into a residence.” The observant citizen also reported seeing the same individual “inside residents’ backyards and hopping over fences.”
SBSD deputies responded to the area and threw up a secure perimeter of the neighborhood while they “deployed a K-9 team.” With a canine cop on the job, it didn’t take deputies long to locate Meadows who was “found running from a residence within the perimeter.”
Investigators soon learned that their suspect had gone so far as to tear a hole in that home’s drywall paneling “in an attempt to conceal himself.” Meadows was summarily taken into custody, arrested, and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on charges of residential burglary, prowling, and resisting arrest.
He was also found to be wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant pursuant to violation of the terms of his probation. He currently remains in custody, with his bail set at $50,000.
