FREMONT – Two men accused of threatening to shoot and attempting to run over a supermarket employee last Monday both remain jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond.
The suspects, Branden Mitchell, 19, of Hercules, and Charles Jackson, 18, of Alameda, were arrested at 11:11 a.m. on May 1, each charged with second degree robbery, assault with a deadly weapon (a vehicle), and grand theft at Lucky and Walgreens stores.
Mitchell and Jackson were booked at Fremont Jail, before being transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where they’re awaiting a pretrial hearing scheduled May 9 at the Hayward Hall of Justice.
Officers responded to a report of theft and a Lucky Supermarket employee being menaced at 34101 Fremont Boulevard, shortly after receiving a report of theft at Walgreens located at 3860 Decoto Road. The descriptions of the suspects in both instances were the same.
An employee at Lucky chased two men suspected of stealing items from the store, who then allegedly threatened to shoot and then tried to run over the worker, before driving away southbound on Fremont Boulevard.
Officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle exiting the parking lot of another nearby supermarket, Safeway, but the car got away briefly, before it was located again as more police cars arrived.
In what Fremont police described as a high risk stop in front of McDonald’s Restaurant at 38860 Fremont Boulevard, several police cars and a canine unit stopped and detained the suspects without incident.
