CONCORD – On June 19th, police captured a suspected robber who tried to hide in the bathroom at a gourmet grocery store in the Four Corners neighborhood, following an attempted robbery and subsequent car crash.
Officers investigating a car crash on Virginia Lane identified the driver Antoine Jones, 19, of Antioch, as the suspect who fled from a robbery incident nearby. The suspect also ran away from the scene of the crash and threw a gun into some bushes, according to the police.
Traffic was diverted away from the vicinity of Monument Boulevard and Oak Grove Road, while officers searched for the suspect, which resulted in a traffic jam around this major intersection.
Police said the suspect attempted to rob an acquaintance staying at a nearby hotel, before he fled by car on Monument Boulevard, and then turned on to Virginia Lane, where he crashed a short distance away.
The suspect ran away from the car and into International Foods located at 1108 Meadow Lane, where police found him hiding in the bathroom with another gun. He surrendered, and was arrested there.
Jones was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility, charged with first degree robbery, exhibiting a firearm, and threatening a crime with intent to terrorize. Jones was also charged for another incident for shoplifting, and failure to appear after making a written promise.
Bail for his release was set at $135,000.
