Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Concealed, Loaded Firearm

SANTA ROSA — On June 28th just before 3 PM, as Santa Rosa Police Department Gang Crimes Team detectives worked street level enforcement as part of a measure to reduce violent incidents in the city, a 2-unit uniformed patrol team conducted a stop in the area of Dutton & South.
While the stop was only for a simple vehicle code violation, it turned out the driver didn’t have a license on him. He did, however, have a California ID card.
As detectives spoke with the driver and passenger, they noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car. When they asked about it, the driver reportedly became “uncooperative, nervous, and irrational.”
The two were ordered out of the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Adrian Aurrelo Aldama (30) of Santa Rosa, patted down. A loaded semi-automatic handgun with 13 live rounds was found in his waistband.
Aldama was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on charges of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and possession of a large/high capacity magazine.
Detectives are working to determine the rightful owner of the gun, as Aldama claims the gun is not his but rather belongs to a family member.
The passenger in Aldama’s car was identified and released at the scene.
