Anthony Sanchez
YUBA – On Tuesday a shooting occurred at the Oregon House in the 9000 block of Marysville Road that left two Yuba County deputies seriously wounded and the shooter dead.
Investigators have identified the deceased suspect as Gilroy resident Mark Anthony Sanchez, who allegedly was “living and working as a caretaker at a marijuana garden located next to the residence” according to a YCSD press release.
Apparently Sanchez fled into the residence after an argument nearby concerning marijuana plants. When deputies arrived and spotted him entering the Oregon House, two of them were shot by Sanchez in the ensuing search.
After a standoff that lasted about 5 hours, Sanchez was found deceased in the house. Although investigators believe he was struck by deputy gunfire, the official cause of death has not yet been determined.
The two deputies are listed in fair condition as they continue to recover.
Sanchez had previously served time for carjacking, assault and burglary. He had two outstanding warrants out of Gilroy when he died. He would have been 34 on Sunday.
UPDATE – An autopsy completed on Thursday morning determined that Sanchez died from “multiple gunshot wounds” he suffered in the return gunfire from the two deputies that he had shot.
