Diamond Springs man stabbed during altercation outside home
Richard Almeda (L) and Anthony Marquez (R)
DIAMOND SPRINGS // On September 16th at around 8 PM, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at a residence on Toyan to investigate a reported incident of assault.
The victim told them several people had shown up to his house looking for a confrontation, during which time a fight ensued and the victim was stabbed.
The suspects — later identified as 23-year-old Richard Almeda and 24-year-old Anthony Marquez — fled the scene prior to police arriving.
It wasn’t long until deputies found the vehicle the two had reportedly been driving and determined that the two were hiding in a house on Matrix Court.
While the occupants initially refused to come out, Marquez eventually relented. Almeda chose to remain inside, fostering a standoff with a SWAT team. After five hours, Almeda finally exited and was taken into custody.
The two are charged with assault with a deadly weapon and housed at El Dorado County Jail.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department reports that the victim “is recovering from his injuries.”
