HOLLISTER // On September 19th just before 10 PM, an officer attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Fourth and East Streets, only to be led on a high-speed pursuit that resulted in injury.
As the pursuit carried on through the streets of Hollister, other units joined and, it passed through an intersection, at which point a third patrol car joined. Unfortunately, an SUV also passing into the intersection failed to yield to the officer’s patrol car, pulling out in front and resulting in a collision.
Severe damage was done to both vehicles and the officer — identified as Sergeant Michael Paddy of Hollister PD — was taken to a local hospital to be treated for multiple injuries, as was the driver of the SUV. Both were later released.
Meanwhile, the pursuit continued onto Highway 101 in the area of Leavesley Road in Gilroy, at which point the CHP took over the pursuit.
Things finally came to a close in Hayward, where Chartanae Lovely (20), Davida Fortenberry (21), and Laje Ford (22) — occupants of the suspect vehicle — were arrested.
The three are suspected of having stolen several thousand dollars worth of merchandise from a local store, as well as discarding evidence throughout the pursuit. They are now housed at the San Benito County Jail on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, and destruction of evidence.
Fortenberry, who’d been driving, was also charged with felony evasion resulting in injury.
