Kerman suspect wanted for carjacking and home invasion
KERMAN – The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man in connection with a violent carjacking and a home invasion, both of which took place this month.
Sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help in finding 28-year-old Ricardo Covarrubia of Kerman. They believe he was involved in a home invasion, as well as a carjacking that included kidnapping and robbery.
On Oct. 14, Covarrubia was allegedly involved in an armed robbery near American and Butte avenues, just south of Kerman. Authorities say that Covarrubia and two other people forced a car off the road and then made the driver get into their car by threatening the victim with a gun.
According to sheriff’s spokesperson Chris Curtice, the suspects drove a short distance and then beat the victim. They robbed the victim before fleeing the scene, Curtice said.
“Personal property was taken from the victim, and they did steal his car,” Curtice said.
The victim was not badly hurt from the assault. The two other suspects have been arrested, according to the sheriff’s department.
On Oct. 19, Covarrubia was involved in a home invasion-style robbery and burglary at a home near Kearney and Howard, according to the sheriff’s department. When he was confronted by the residents, Covarrubia fired a rifle at one of the victims, Curtice said. No one was hit by the gunfire.
“We believe (Covarrubia) acted alone in the second incident,” Curtice said.
Covarrubia is considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff’s department said. He is wanted on several charges, including armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, burglary and assault with a firearm.
Anyone with information on where Covarrubia could be is asked to call the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 488-3111 or CrimeStoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867).
