SANTA ROSA // Police are investigating a home invasion robbery after four suspects forced their way into a home and assaulted one of the residents on the morning of January 1st.
Just before 6:40 AM, officers arrived at the home on the 3700 block of Golden Gate Avenue, where they learned that one of the residents had been awakened by a loud knock at the door at around 6:30 and was confronted by three to four suspicious persons upon answering.
The resident said one of them had been wearing clothing bearing the word “Sheriff,” although there was no indication of any specific agency. When the suspects entered the home, they did not claim affiliation with any law enforcement agency and simply demanded money.
Before he could react, the victim was reportedly assaulted by one of the suspects and rendered unconscious.
When he came to, the suspects were gone. Another occupant of the home managed to escape when they entered. A third occupant, as well as an infant child, were asleep and never came into contact with them. Despite having been knocked unconscious, the first victim did not sustain serious injuries.
As of yet, it is unclear whether anything was stolen. One of the residents reportedly cultivates marijuana, which is believed to have been the motive behind the robbery.
As the investigation continues, the Sonoma County Alliance “Take Back Our Community” program is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of those involved.
