Trail of Discarded Packages Leads to Arrest, Investigation Seeks Surveillance Footage
CLAREMONT – Claremont Police Commissioner Edgar Reece is thanking alert citizens for an outstanding example of ‘See Something, Say Something!’ measures that led to the arrest of package thief and convicted burglary and grand theft auto felon Holly Stephenson (27) of Covina.
Two alert citizens saw a discarded package in the middle of Yuba Lane at Grand Avenue on 1/26/18 near 3:20 PM. Along the way, they discovered more discarded packages on nearby streets, followed by a woman throwing an empty box from the window of a moving older red Ford Ranger.
An immediate 9-1-1 call summoned Claremont Officers to promptly locate the vehicle with the driver as well as contents of the discarded discoveries.
Police Commissioner Reese announced, “The recovered stolen packages were from the 400 block of Middlebury Court, the 600 block of Huron Drive, and the 2000 block of New Haven Avenue.”
He continued, “Holly Stephenson was arrested for petty theft with prior convictions. Stephenson is a convicted felon for burglary and grand theft auto and she has multiple arrests and convictions for theft-related offenses.”
Investigators seek surveillance evidence. The Commissioner urges area residents to review their footage of doorbell-type cameras or surveillance cameras taken during the above times, and asks, “If you live in the area near these thefts and had a package stolen, please contact us. This is an excellent example of citizens Seeing Something and Saying Something!”
