WHITTIER – Justice has been nearly five years in coming in the death of 6-month-old Mia Orozco.
On May 10, 2013, while under the watch of her father, Mia stopped breathing. The father, 26-year-old Eduardo Orozco called the child’s mother, who was at work, and she came home and called an ambulance.
Once baby Mia was taken to the hospital she was pronounced dead. Investigation revealed that the baby had four broken ribs, two punctured lungs, a lacerated heart and internal bleeding.
Further investigation showed that Mia had previous fractured ribs that had healed. Orozco admitted to hitting his little daughter.
It took a jury less than a day to find Orozco guilty of second degree murder and assault on a child causing death.
His sentence is scheduled for March 22 and he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
A “youcaring” fundraising page, closed on May 13, 2013, asserted that Eduardo is innocent is being “falsely accused.”
