LOS ANGELES — 35-year-old Julio Cesar Jiminez was working as a Brinks security guard when he decided to steal some of the money he was hired to deliver.
On November 28, 2017, Jiminez stole thousands of dollars from an ATM in Newhall and then burned the machine on December 1.
While the total value of the loss was announced as over $65,000, NBC4 reported on February 28 that $120,000 in cash was stolen.
Since the incident, Jiminez was hired as an LACSD recruit on December 14 before being arrested on February 15.
Capt. Darren Harris reports that Jiminez is no longer employed by the department.
He has been charged with grand theft, arson of property, and vandalism over $400.
The suspect faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted.
