ENCINO – 69-year-old general practitioner Dr. Michael Popkin was sentenced to serve one year in county jail and three years of formal probation after pleading no contest to one felony count of sexual exploitation on five of his patients, as well as one misdemeanor count of sexual battery.
Popkin will have to complete 52 weeks of sexual compulsion training, register as a sex offender, relinquish his medical license and no longer practice medicine.
The conduct included forcibly kissing a patient and inappropriate fondling. The incidents occurred between June 2014 and October 2016.
The District Attorney’s press release noted that “most of the woman involved were present in court (for sentencing) and made victim impact statements.
Popkin will begin serving his time on May 1.
