VALLEY CENTER – Deputies arrested a Valley Center resident for a brutal assault on his girlfriend and her young child.
Raymond Rivera, 40, was arrested on July 13 by San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies following an assault on his 30-year-old girlfriend and her nine-year old daughter. Rivera’s charges are Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Child Abuse.
The assault occurred on the 11700 block of Keys Creek Road in Valley Center the morning of July 13.
During the altercation, Rivera allegedly punched and strangled his girlfriend and slammed her head into a van and also punched her nine-year-old daughter when she tried to intervene. Rivera also allegedly threw a portable air conditioning unit at the victim as she tried to flee.
During the attack, the victim produced a small pocket knife. She then stabbed Rivera in the buttocks in self-defense, which provided her with sufficient time to flee and call 911.
The victim and her daughter were subsequently located by police hiding in bushes near the scene of the attack. Rivera tried to flee on foot when police arrived. They apprehended him and took him to a local hospital to treat his injury but declined treatment.
