Firefighter caught assaulting man on camera

REDLANDS – An off-duty firefighter and another man were arrested and charged with assaulting a Moreno Valley man early Monday morning.

Police contacted the suspects, Joshua Peter Egan, 32, of Yucaipa, and Bradley Robert Memory, 31, of Calimesa – both of whom turned themselves in at Redlands police headquarters.

Surveillance camera operators at the Redlands Police Dispatch Center caught the assault as two men beat and kicked a man at 1:30 a.m. The dispatch center was able to capture the license plate number of one suspect’s truck as they left the scene.

Egan is a Redlands firefighter who was off duty at the time of the assault and has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation.

Once police contacted the suspects, Egan turned himself in on Monday. Memory turned himself in on Tuesday, according to police.

Police spokesman Carl Baker said, “The circumstances of the assault are still under investigation and we can’t comment on those details.”

Nor would he identify the victim, who was described as a 23-year-old from Moreno Valley. According to a report, the victim was treated at the scene for injuries and released after refusing further medical treatment.

The assault took place in a driveway at the 300 block of Orange Street, which is located in the downtown sector near bars and restaurants. The driveway is shared between two restaurants, Joe Greensleeves and Citrone.

Once police received the call, surveillance cameras had spotted the suspect’s black Chevrolet pickup track and its license plate number.

The surveillance watched two suspects beat a man and kick him before leaving the scene. Both were arrested for assault and booked on $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
