INGLEWOOD, CA—Was it coincidence or was it an assault stopped short of city hall?
An December 4 Christmas party hosted by California Senator Roderick Wright and California Assemblyman Steven Bradford was not interrupted by what was unfolding downstairs.
The party, which started at approximately 5 p.m. that Wednesday, was held on the 6th floor of city hall between and within the offices of the two politicians. At about the same time that other pols, area celebrities and a plethora of behind-the-scenes movers and shakers began to fill the space, Inglewood police stopped a vehicle down below.
The incident ended in the arrests of Luis Alberto Cardenas, 23, on Queen Street at La Brea Avenue and of Percival Alexander Williams, 50, one block away at Manchester Boulevard.
Queen Street terminates directly in front of Inglewood City Hall.
Cardenas, a resident from the 8900 block of Menlo Avenue of Los Angeles, was charged with “ADW not firearm” (assault with a deadly weapon but not a firearm) around 5:20 p.m. Bail was set at $30,000.
Williams was arrested at approximately 7:45 p.m. one block south where la Brea crosses Manchester. He was charged with carrying a dirk or dagger. Bail for the Queen Street resident was set at $2,500.
Asked to comment, an IPD officer who declined to identify himself owing to the developing situation said, “We have the situation under control but we are seeking at least one other individual.”
