Domestic Violence May Have Escalated Into Wife’s Alleged Murder of Husband
The wife of a longtime Yolo County probation official was arrested August 3 on charges of felony murder related to domestic violence, after allegedly killing him at her home.
Susan Hoskins, 59, a Woodland resident, called 911 on the evening of August 3rd and reported she had just shot her husband, Bryan Hoskins, at 607 Knollwood Drive near the Woodland Cemetery. Knollwood Avenue is a private cul-de-sac serving only a group of condominiums known as Knollwood.
Police arrived within minutes. Mrs. Hoskins was waiting for them on the porch of her condo. According to Woodland Police Department spokesman Lieutenant Anthony Cucchi, Ms. Hoskins was cooperative and surrendered without incident. Officers had quickly determined she was not armed when she met them.
Officers summoned paramedics who happened to be stationed nearby. Bryan Hoskins, however, died of his injuries at the scene. The cause of death was, according to Yolo County Deputy Chief Coroner Gina Moya, “a single penetrating gunshot wound to the chest.”
Ms. Hoskins will face domestic violence charges in addition to felony murder since she and Bryan Hoskins were married at the time of his death. Though legally married, Mr. and Mrs. Hoskins lived in separate condos across Knollwood Drive from each other. On the night of the murder, Bryan Hoskins’s motorcycle was parked in front of his wife’s townhouse.
Cucchi said she was conveyed to Woodland Police Headquarters, interviewed by detectives and subsequently lodged at the Yolo County Jail. Her arraignment before Court Commissioner Janene Beronio, originally scheduled for August 6, was continued to August 8.
