CALIFORNIA CITY — A 20-year-old man was arrested last Friday afternoon after a brief stand-off with police in eastern Kern County.
Christopher Forbes of California City was booked into the Kern County Jail for spousal abuse, threaten with intent to terrorize, resisting arrest, parole violation and interfering with a 9-1-1 call. He is being held on $42,500 bail.
According to the California City Police Department, the incident began at around 2 p.m. on February 19, officer responded to a 9-1-1 call of a woman screaming for help at an apartment complex in the 8400 block of Xavier Avenue in California City.
“As officers arrived at the complex, they spotted the suspect fleeing on foot,” said Chief of Police, Eric Hurtado. “Initial witness statements reported the suspect tried to kidnap a woman at the complex.”
Police chased Forbes, as he ran through several fenced backyards along Columbine and Xavier Streets, eventually jumping a fence into a backyard in the 8600 block of North Loop Boulevard, where he hid inside the home.
“Officers then received another report from a witness, observing Forbes arming himself with a handgun before officers arrived at the apartment complex where the crime occurred,” Hurtado said.
Officers arrived and ordered Forbes out of the home but he refused.
The standoff forced the closure of North Loop Boulevard for two hours, before Forbes surrendered to police shortly after 4 p.m.
